Using face id on iPhone to log in with Mac mini m4

I have a new Mac mini m4, and I am also now to BW.
The BW app is installed on the Mac and also on my iPhone.
I can log in to BW with FaceID on the iPhone; that works great.

When I want to use BW on the Mac, I have to type in my long complex master password.

Is there any way to have the Mac contact my iPhone and ask for Face ID, so that I can skip all that typing?

Thank you.

@Walt45 Welcome to the forum!

Depending on exactly what you’re trying to do, it may or may not be possible.

Actually, no, you cannot “log in” using FaceID (either on an iPhone or on a Mac). Most likely you are referring to something else, called “unlocking”. It is important to understand the distinction between unlocking and logging in; please refer to this explanation. It is recommended to configure the Vault Timeout Action to “Lock” rather than “Log Out”, so your first step should be to go to Bitwarden > Settings in your macOS Desktop app to ensure that the Vault Timeout Action is set to “Lock”.

Although you can’t use FaceID to unlock your Desktop app, it is possible to unlock the macOS Desktop app using TouchID, if that would be of interest to you; instructions can be found here. Alternatively, you could set up a shorter password (known as “PIN”, even though it may contain non-numeric characters) to lock and unlock your Desktop app, as explained here.

Finally, if your Desktop app is actually logged out (not just locked), and you wish to log back in without entering your master password, then you can use a feature called “Log in with Device” to use your iPhone to approve a login request from the Desktop app; this is explained here. Unfortunately, there is not yet any option for unlocking a Bitwarden Desktop app using an iPhone, but there is an active feature request here:
