Using BW with a stand alone WIN app like Quicken

I am a new user to BW. This is EXACTLY the question I wanted to ask. I see that this thread is 4 1/2 years old. Has anything changed? Right now I feel lucky that I figured out how to use the FireFox browser extension. So, I installed the Windows desktop app and the little blue shield is in my toolbar. BUT WHAT IS THE POINT of installing the standalone windows BW app? For instance I would like to use BW to store my QUICKEN vault PW. How do I do THAT?

@Steven_Kramer Welcome to the forum!

As you already stated, the other post was an older post… and as you already “double posted”, I merged those two posts to a new “topic”. (the old one is still linked at the bottom of the first post here)

Welcome, @Steven_Kramer to the community. There are a few feature requests that address this question. After you have browsed around a bit, feel free to go vote for one or both of them.

In short, the desktop app facilitates use of biometrics, but it does not yet have native app autofill.

You can certainly store the password in a regular login item in stored in your Bitwarden vault, but you cannot (yet) do “auto-typing” (whereby Bitwarden automatically transfers the password into the password input filed in your Quicken app). Instead, you’d have to either copy-and-paste the password, or (if Quicken supports it), drag-and-drop the password from the password field in the Bitwarden Desktop app into the password input field in Quicken. Drag-and-drop is a more secure method, so you should use it over copy-and-paste whenever possible.

However, if you read through some of the later comments in the auto-type feature request, you will find that Bitwarden has plans to implement this, and that there is currently an alternative desktop app available that can already do this.
