Hi. I noticed that when i start my browser and it restores a tab that immediately requests HTTP Basic Auth, i can not unlock my Bitwarden Vault through the browser. I type my master password, it accepts, and it does not unlock.
I manually authenticate in the tab requesting HTTP Basic Auth, try unlocking the vault again, and now it does work.
This is repeatable for me. Anyone else notice this behaviour?
I’m running an unofficial server (Vaultwarden) and indeed when i point my browser plugin to bitwarden.com for some obscure reason i can unlock the vault with the HTTP Basic Auth modal showing.
I will take this elsewhere and should have tested this before posting here.
fwiw: i do have a bitwarden subscription because i love their work, i just think the OG server is kinda bloated. <3
It seems, you are using an unofficial server software, which is not supported by Bitwarden, as it is an independent product. From time to time, there will be compatibility issues between the official Bitwarden client apps (browser extension, mobile app, desktop app…) and an unofficial server product, when Bitwarden implements changes to its own server software and/or client apps. “…Bitwarden cannot guarantee that official clients will work perfectly with non-official servers.”
(Also due to this - and for other reasons - we recommend using the official Bitwarden server software.)
It is generally not possible for members of the Bitwarden community (users or developers) to help with such issues - and with issues of the unofficial server itself. Please seek support in their community spaces.
If you can replicate your issue on an official Bitwarden server, feel free to open a new thread here.
Do note that late last year, Bitwarden introduced Bitwarden Lite, a new self-hosted single-docker package which is much less resource intensive than its predecessors. Might we worth a look again.
