Unlock with biometrics doesn't stick in Firefox extension

In Firefox 125.0.2 unlock with biometrics will not stick. Unlock with pin seems to work sometimes.

Chrome makes me type full password each time now, unlock with fingerprint enabled.

Allow browser integration is enabled in vault and running in the tray.

removed the extension, reinstalled.

Bitwarden 2024.4.1

Win11 23H2 22631.3447

There is this recent similar issue:

whose workaround is to remove the extension, restart the browser, and reinstall.

Tried this, same thing. I select unlock with biometrics and it doesn’t stick. not working in Chrome or Firefox. unlock with Pin working

I experienced the same thing. What fixed it for me was that my Bitwarden Windows app was locked. As soon as I unlocked it, the Firefox Bitwarden extension was able to retain the “unlock with biometrics” settings.

Same here, I need to unlock the Windows app first (even with biometrics) and then FF extension allows me to unlock it with biometric.

This issue started a few weeks ago.

Also tried:

  1. uninstal FF extension.
  2. reinstall it.
  3. login vault back with master password.
  4. setting “login with biometric”.

It didn’t work. There’s something between extension and Windows app when the app is locked.

This seems to be an inconvenient security fix. PIN may be better for people who don’t want to deal with it.

Tried everything over and over, deleted, reinstalled etc. “unlock with biometrics” will not stay checked. latest desktop app and extension running in Win11 and logged in.

Chrome has 2024.6.1 extension, Firefox has 2024.4.2

Only option I can get is unlock with PIN. I am premium subscriber if that matters.

Same issue. MS Edge on both Win11 an MacOS

Same old thing can’t get biometrics to work in Firefox or even Chrome Windows 11 24H2.

Bitwarden app 2024.12.1, extension in Chrome is 2024.12.2, and in Firefox 2024.12.0

Just keeps asking for my Windows PIN, What does my Windows PIN have to do with anything? have uninstalled, reinstalled.

Edit: after uninstalling in Firefox now have 2024.11.2

Just got 2024.12.3 for Firefox, have 2024.12.1 app running in tray with “allow browser integration” enabled. Windows 11 24H2, Unlock with biometrics will not enable.

Thanks for the report, I’ll send you a DM for additional details.

Dont know if this will help, but I had the same case with IE and Chome, and it only works if on the desktop the option “Ask for Windows Hello on App Start” is selected. If “Require password or Pin on app Start” is selected, the option on the browser always get unselected.

I got it to work finally, I think logging out of the desktop app and logging back in did something, not positive, just had to keep messing with it, now fills faster than ever using fingerprint.

Getting this problem on MacOS (Sequoia 15.3.1) with Firefox 135.0.1 and Bitwarden FF Extension 2024.12.4 and Bitwarden Mac Desktop App 2025.2.0.

When I try to enable the “Unlock with Biometrics” setting in the FF extension, it shows an error saying it is currently unavailable and then in the desktop app, there is this message: “Extension update required: The browser extension you are using is out of date. Please update it or disable browser integration fingerprint validation in the desktop app settings.”

But it is up to date…

@adstr Welcome to the forum!

That is a known bug at the moment:

Though, if I understand it correctly, if you deactivate “require fingerprint verification”, it should work… (see the last posts in the GitHub issue for more info to that)

That Problem seems to have been solved by the new Browser extension version 2025.2.0, actually for me it did work if I deactivate Verifying Browser Integration (or similar in english - mine is actually german).

But now for me it again does not work, jus sais its not activated in the Desktop app (but it is).
If I deactivate and activate again in the desktop app - it works - for once, then the same issue apears again.
