Unable to unlock with biometrics on app start after updating to 2025.8.0

After updating the desktop client to 2025.8.0, I can no longer unlock with biometrics on app start. I have to unlock with my master password first, and only then can I unlock with biometrics again. The previous options “Ask for biometric on app start” and “Require password or PIN on app start” are also gone.

According to the release notes, this change seems to be intentional. However, I don’t understand the reason behind it, and it makes unlocking the vault much less convenient.

Additionally, it also breaks browser integration, since I have to unlock with master password in the desktop app before I can unlock with biometrics in the browser extension.

I think there is an explanation in this PR on GitHub. My very short summary: changes because of the background/foreground problem – which probably are on Microsoft – would have compromised security otherwise…

I’m not sure I have the same definition of “it breaks” – since the browser integration works (just tested it).
