After searching for a record and using it, often the password is visible.
I would like a timeout to go to “All items” and to clear the “Search vault” field aka go Home so sensitive data is not shown and it is ready for a new search.
(First time posting and unsure about the 2 required tags)
I guess, you are talking about the Bitwarden browser extensions?
(if yes, then there already is a timeout of about 2 minutes, I think… you can also “reset” the state, by clicking/changing to another tab in your browser)
BTW, “using” could also be editing etc. - but if you mean “logging in”, then it shouldn’t be normal that the passwords are visible, as
you should use one or more of the various autofill methods to fill in the credentials for logging in
you could also use drag & drop to fill in the credentials
or you could even use the copy buttons to copy credentials (without having them visible for that)
I believe @drwinchell is using the desktop app, as he indicated in the tags. The desktop does have an annoying characteristic that the last viewed item is always visible, although the password does re-obscure if you minimize the vault window.
There is a workaround. When done viewing an item, click the “+” button at the bottom of the screen to create a new entry. This replaces the last viewed item with an innocuous form. As long as you do not enter any data in the form, it will not interfere with subsequently searching for and opening another vault item. Also workable is clicking the “send” tab and then the vault tab.
That said, if you are using Bitwarden in conjunction with a web browser, the browser extension is likely a better choice simply because autofill is much more convenient and safer.
It seems that you are proposing two different things (a time-out and an ability to clear the search). It is important for all feature request topics to propose only a single idea, so that the discussion and voting can be interpreted without ambiguity.
There are also existing Feature Request topics for the ideas that you have suggested, so I would recommend that you add your support to those topics (by commenting, and by voting after your forum account has been promoted from “new user” to “basic user”):
I will close your feature request as a duplicate, but feel free to open a new feature request topic, if you have ideas that have not previously been suggested.
