Sync between two or more instances of the authenticator app (independent of the BW password manager/vault)

I am glad that there is an authenticator app from bitwarden. The only feature I miss is the cloud sync option so that the TOTP codes are synchronized between devices without having to export/import them manually.

Thanks in advance,

Christian

So, May I assume by this request that as of right now, the only way to sync my iOS app with the Desktop app is via export and import? Wow!!! I am moving away from Authy because they have turned evil !!

Unfortunately, yes. So I didn’t see an option to synchronize. Only export and import.

This seriously needs to be added. In edge cases, this will quickly become an absolutely massive issue. For example, I have half a dozen critical accounts on the Bitwarden Authenticator on my Pixel 8 and the screen on it went out. I was given a phone by a family member, instead of paying to replace the screen on my Pixel. Yet, without paying that money and fixing that device, I have no effectively lost access to any of these accounts, if they don’t offer alternative authentication options.

Hey!

Could you please specify, what you mean by “Cloud Sync” exactly…:

  1. Do you mean by that, e.g. to sync two (or more) BW Authenticator apps (let’s say one on your phone and one on your tablet) between each other?

  2. You don’t mean the sync option that is already “in the making” (sync between BW password manager – or rather your Bitwarden account/vault and the authenticator app)? → I guess, this sync would probably also work if you had more than one authenticator app installed.

(BTW, that option is on the current roadmap: )

  1. And just to be sure: you also don’t mean more backup options, like this feature request is about (and what would also loosely count as a form of “Cloud Sync”): (More) cloud backup options, independent of the device's backup system (iCloud/Google) ?!

Exactly. In my case, it would be great if syncing could work via iCloud (or other cloud services), similar to many other authenticator apps.

That would solve the issue for password manager users. However, I think we should also consider those who use only the authenticator app.

Sidenote: I just changed the title from “Cloud Sync” to “Sync between two or more instances of the authenticator app (independent of the BW password manager/vault)”.

Just a comment: as the authenticator app – without syncing with the BW account/vault – exists only in the “local storage” of the device, that feature request would probably involve either using other “cloud storage solutions” (iCloud, Google, …) for syncing between two or more authenticator apps without involving the BW password manager/vault… or another (BW) account, solely for the authenticator app data being able to be synced…

Thanks for clarification! As you can see, I tried to make that more clear in the new title now.
