For those already leveraging AI agents in their workflows, the Agent Access SDK is a new open standard and standalone development toolkit to help enforce secure, end-to-end encrypted credential access.
Available now in an early alpha phase for everyone to test, the Agent Access SDK fundamentally redefines how agents can securely interact with password vaults, work-related systems, and digital life.
Note: This release does not incorporate any AI functionality into the Bitwarden solution and instead offers a pathway to prevent plaintext exposure of credentials whether via .env file or chat history. The Agent Access SDK is a standalone software development toolkit that does not impact your Bitwarden vault unless downloaded.
Developed by Bitwarden, the SDK enables:

Just-in-time (JIT) access: Approve access to specific credentials only when required to execute a specific task, instead of granting access to an entire password vault.

End-to-end encryption: Encrypt all agent communications end-to-end and inject them into the process, helping prevent plaintext password exposure.

Human-in-the-loop (HITL): Approval workflows ensure oversight into every credential used by an agent.
