SSO Issues with Desktop App

I am self hosting Bitwarden. All works fine (Web app and Extension). However, when it comes to logging into the desktop app through SSO, it doesn’t work.

It launches a browser tab that asks for the identifer, once entered, it asks to launch the Bitwarden app. On the Bitwarden app it goes to an endless spinner that never indicates success or failure.

I am not sure what is going wrong here.

Which version of Bitwarden Server are you running? See instructions for determining server version.

I was experiencing the same issue although I don’t know if we are self hosting. I was running client version 2024.9.0, checked for updates, and no updates found. Closing and opening the app didn’t help. I uninstalled the app, downloaded the client installer which appeared to be the same version, and reinstalled. Right after it launched, it prompted that there was an update, 2024.10.0, and I responded with the restart option to allow it to update. After the app relaunched, login worked.

The only Bitwarden client app for which 2024.10.0 is the current version is the browser extension, but the extensions typically update silently and automatically (without a prompt or restart). So I’m not sure which app you are using. *

Regardless, there have been some unrelated glitches causing unresponsive apps for some users in the past few days. These are supposed to have been resolved by now. So it could be that the reinstallation/update was unrelated to the fact that your app started working again.


*Update: Within minutes after posting my comment, Desktop app version 2024.10.0 was made available. Evidently the same update was temporarily available for a short time starting about 2 hours before your comment was posted, but then withdrawn.
