Special vault search keyword for entries with passkeys

@Bontchev Bitwarden doesn’t usually post official statements in feature request threads — unless they are in the process of implementing the request, or have made a business decision that they will definitely not be pursuing development of the requested feature. Given those two options and the relatively low vote-count, the lack of a Bitwarden response here may be a blessing in disguise. My general impression (and personal speculation) is that the development resources at Bitwarden are quite overstretched, so it is typically the most popular feature requests that get attention.

Personally, when I use passkeys stored in Bitwarden, I have a habit of always storing them in a separate vault item (not inside a login item that has other information, such as username/password, etc.), and I give these passkey-only vault entries a name like “example.com passkey”; this makes them easy to find by searching. I could even collect all of those passkey items in a single folder, which would allow me to apply a folder filter to see only the passkey items.

This approach may be difficult to apply if you already have a large number of passkeys stored in existing login items, but an alternative would be to define a custom text field for each such items, with a searchable keyword (e.g., “passkey”).

@grb

what is “a separate vault item” - how do I get one?

I’m not @grb, but it seems just a second (or third etc.) vault item for the same service is meant (like one vault item for this Community Forum that contains username and password, and another vault item for this Community Forum that just contains the email address again and a login passkey etc.).

And you “get one” by cloning an existing vault item or just by adding a new vault item with + New.

OK, so, it is just a separate “login” item with “password” in its name for easy searching.

Yes, although I use the keyword “Passkey”. And I don’t store the username email, password, or URL in that item, only the passkey itself, and the item name.
