Apologies if this is tagged incorrectly, I didn’t know what the best angle was so thought the request for the password manager itself is closest.
I know I am not alone in having been a big fan of Bitwarden for years, and have been a paying user as well. Also, like many, I have been driven off of X after it has become toxic and extreme on a level that genuinely I don’t think anyone could’ve anticipated.
I was a Lastpass user, but moved because of the appeal of an open-source option (that also allows room for self-hosting, too) in Bitwarden. For much the same reason, I have been using Bluesky for the last 2 years completely. While still not as mainstream, it has been growing steadily and is also part of a wider, open-social movement with the same ethos as the fediverse but an alternate implementation (through the ATProtocol). The app, and protocol, are open source (as is your user data, which you can even self-host, and I plan to soon as I do with my Bitwarden vault).
There seems much more in common with Bitwarden in the ethos of Bluesky compared to that of X, and while I appreciate the business incentive to remain on the biggest microblogging platform, I do think it leaves the many (current and potential) users that Bitwarden appeals to with less opportunity for understanding new updates or seeking support.
Many tools exist already to crosspost, both to Bluesky directly and to just bridge between the Fediverse and atproto. I don’t see a reason not to do this, and currently there is a Bitwarden account that has thousands of followers with no posts at all. I think there is all the incentive in the world to move off of X, and having seen so many other socials listed at the bottom of the Bitwarden website but none of them being Bluesky, it feels an odd omission imo.
Again, apologies if I am posting this in the wrong section of the forums. I hadn’t realised these existed at all and obviously the nature of this request makes it clearer why I’m asking. I did see other people asking for Bluesky engagement too, and it’s projected to be around 50m users by the end of the year (even with it’s current slower growth). I think it makes sense to me, and I hope it does to you too.
