Smartcard 2FA

Hi,

Is it possible to include smartcard in 2fa?
I have gov issued personal ID with certificate on it that can be used for email and doc signing and gov websites login.

Hello Drazen,
There is no such feature in Bitwarden. You can use an authenticator app or a hardware security key like Solokey to secure your account with 2FA.

Hi,

That’s why I recommended it as a feature request. A lot of people have a Smart card ID, why not use it. :innocent:
And it’s an official document.

You posed it as a question, so I think @vachan was kindly answering it for you…

@dh024 @vachan
I do not understand why do you think I was not kind also. :upside_down_face:
I just proposed/asked for a feature that does not require additional purchase from the user side (at least some of them).
Developers will maybe see this as a good idea or as a too complicated one. Nevertheless, it works for gov websites and that’s where I saw smartcard ID as potential 2Fa for Bitwarden.

Smartcards are not only issued by governments, any organization could issue them, you could even get one individually. They are generally the same in concept to FIDO U2F, and Yubico devices which are supported. I think they are an excellent choice for 2FA.
