Since Updating to the New Encryption, 2FA Keys Aren’t Working

Since updating to the new encryption, I’ve had issues logging into sites that require my 2FA, where I’ve never had issues before, and I’ve had to use backup codes to log in.

I just removed my 2FA from a popular social media site and tried re-adding it to Bitwarden, but it says the codes it’s generating aren’t valid.

Is this an issue others have run into? I’m really nervous that my whole vault is ruined now, and I wish I hadn’t opted into the new encryption.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m not sure about the device(s) you’re talking about… but check the time-zone and either manually sync the time or toggle the automatic sync (to initiate a new sync).

You can check e.g. with https://time.is if your device is out of sync. (and since TOTP codes are time-based, when the time on your device is out of sync, that’s usually the reason why the TOTP codes become invalid)

As long as your vault unlocks, then there is no possibility that the “new encryption” affects availability of vault items. All that the “new encryption” from the automatic migrations currently (April 2026) does is change the difficulty of cracking your master-password. It does not change encryption of individual vault items whatsoever.

There is either an unrelated bug here, or as @Nail1684 suggests the time setting is wrong.
