Sharing between 2 people - Best Practices & Setup Help

Goal: 2 users (Wife & I) accessing 1 vault/organization, importing data from Lastpass (495 items), and having all future added items automatically shared between us.

I have created Bitwarden accounts for both of us. My understanding is that I need to create an organization to enable sharing, which I have done and both of us can access the organization. When I import the data into the organization, I get an error that the organization can only have 2 collections. I believe this is because of the lastpass grouping, and the recommendation is to remove the grouping values from the csv before importing. This is doable, but then I lose my grouping and have 1 big unorganized list which I don’t like.

Is importing the data right into the organization the best practice?

I imported the data into my vault (which retains the grouping), then moved all 495 items to the organization. After doing this, I still see all items and groupings in my vault, but the owner has changed to the organization. In the organization view, I see 1 big list of items. With this arrangement, when I create a new item, does that go into my vault and then I would have to move it to the collection manually? Or do new items get saved to the organization and automatically get shared?

The goal is that when either my wife or I create a new item, I want that to be automatically available to both of us.

Thanks

Are you sure you are seeing it in your vault or are you still in “All Vaults” view where it shows the combined list from everything?

When you create a new entry, at the bottom of that window there’s an “Ownership” section. There you can select where that entry is going to be created.

One annoying aspect of BitWarden’s implementation of shared vaults/collections(at least as of now) compared to LastPass’, is once you move an item into it, you can’t move it out. Your only option is to manually recreate that record in your vault and delete it in shared.

Thanks for your response.

The “All Vaults” view shows one big list of all 495 items.
Below that, under “All Items” I still see all my “Folders” imported from LP, but there appears to be no way to move items between folders once I have selected the folder it goes into.

The other problematic thing that happened when I signed up at a new site, was as I was signing up, I have BW generate the PW, I then had to paste it in (no biggie), but when I hit submit to create the account, BW did not ask if I wanted to save the new site. This was in Firefox on my Windows PC, and yes, I have the desktop client installed and running. When I logged out of the new site, and then logged back in, BW asked me at that point if I wanted to save the new site.

Not sure if this was a one off anomaly with this site, I will have to do some more testing, but I would really prefer if BW saved the new item as I was creating it.

Edit: Tried another site and it prompted to save as I created the login. And I figured out how to move items between folders. (cant drag and drop, but rather have to open the item and then change the folder). Got to love the learning curve of new software!

Now I just need to figure out I can need or can benefit of any of the options with a premium account.
