Running self hosted Bitwarden for a few years, everything working perfectly. In the past week or so my Firefox Bitwarden browser extension stopped offering saved passkeys. They were working on Gmail as well as a host of other sites, now when I try to use a passkey to log in, Bitwarden won’t pop up offering a pre-saved passkey from the vault. Anyone else seen this behavior? For reference I’m on Windows 11 using Firefox browser extension.
Then, please post your Firefox and BW extension versions.
You explicitly asked for “self-hosted”, but if only for comparison: I’m on the BW cloud servers and I just tested passkey login on this forum and on Google – works without any issue on Firefox 145.0.2 / BW extension 2025.11.0 for me. (Windows 11 25H2)
PS:
(emphasis my edit)
Did you already check if (in the extension) “Ask to save and use passkeys” is still checked (Settings → Notifications)? – And did you check if those domains are listed in your “Excluded domains” list (Settings → Notifications → Excluded domains)? (they shouldn’t be listed there for passkey usage on those domains to work)
Oh my gosh, so yeah, Settings/Notifications “Save and Use Passkeys” was unchecked. Odd since I haven’t been in settings in a very long time, not sure how it got unchecked in the first place. Thank you @Nail1684 for the easy fix!
@Nail1684 Yeah as you suspected they don’t work again after the update. Thanks for the heads up, looking forward to the next update to possibly fix this.
… in the meantime, downgrading the Firefox extension would be a workaround – more on that in the staff notice attached to the first post in the thread (link from my previous post).
