Self-Host instructions not working - mssql server errors

I have tried multiple time and am still unable to get a self-hosted version of Bitwarden in a usable state. I’ve been following the official documentation and I have had some assistance following this guide on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSLGa0LjTrA&t=1s

I’m starting from a brand new installation of Debian 12 in a virtual machine, and i’m following this official guide: Install and Deploy - Linux | Bitwarden Help Center.

Every time I complete the install, when I go to set up my account, I get the error “an unhandled server error has occurred”

In logging under “SSO” I see the following error messages:

SSO Error:

Error Number:4060,State:1,Class:11

2023-11-30 20:44:37.231 +00:00 [Error] An exception was thrown attempting to execute the error handler.

Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open database “vault” requested by the login. The login failed.

Login failed for user ‘sa’.

I have noticed there appears to be an errror in the script with how it configures the mssql options “Trust Server Certificate” and “Multiple Active Result Sets” but removing the spaces doesn’t resolve the issue in my case.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

I installed passbolt instead. Flawless on-prem install (they actually have guides specific to your linux distro), better support and better for group environments.

Hi @jrsmith83, we’re sorry to see you go! For what it’s worth, I did speak with our Support team who would be happy to help troubleshoot your issue. If you change your mind and want to try Bitwarden again, please feel free to reach out to them any time at Help Center | Bitwarden
