Same password will not work on mobile and desktop

Hello. I tried searching the forums for an answer to this but couldn’t find anything that matched the exact issue I am experiencing. I am unable to type my password in on desktop or mobile alternatively.

I initially typed my master password into a google keep text document then copied and pasted it into bitwarden at setup. I was then unable to login if I typed the password. I tried multiple times going slowly letter by letter. I am only able to log in via copying and pasting the password from the keep document. I then changed it to keying the password in directly by pasting my current pass from the document and then keying in the new password. This works on my mobile.

I then tried to setup bitwarden on my windows PC, and I am unable to type in the password again. The only solution I was able to find was to email myself the typed password from my mobile device then copy and paste it again on the desktop. I then tried to create a new clean version on desktop (thinking the mobile keyboard was messing things up), but I am experiencing the same issue now where I needed to email back a version of the password I created on desktop so I can copy and paste it so I am able to log in on mobile.

Any advice on what could possibly be going on? I saw advice in similar threads to paste into notepad or a txt document to avoid any potential special formatting, and that works for copying and pasting, but I am unable to key in the password no matter what I try, and I am very concerned about losing access with how finicky it seems to be. Your advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome, @Phillip the community!

Try changing your master password to something that uses nothing other than uppercase “English” letters (A-Z), lowercase letters (a-z) and/or numbers (0-9). Some characters, such as quotes, dashes, and Unicode do not work reliably cross-platform.

And, if you are concerned about it being less “strong” due to lack of specials, just add another character or two. See password strength if you want to understand why this works.

Thanks for the reply! It actually is nothing but English Upper & Lowercase letters and numbers currently. I have not included any special characters in any of the versions I have tried.

Maybe a leading or trailing space?
