Safari extension error logging in but mac app and website are ok

Hi,
Could I please get some help?

Safari extension would not sync, then won’t log in.
“An error has occurred
Load failed”

Masterpassword is correct as copy/paste from extension (where error occurs) into Mac app or website works.
Email address was copied from the Mac app which is logged in.
Correct .com or .eu selected

Couldn’t edit an entry and it wouldn’t sync (errors).
Could edit in Mac app so went to sync the extension after to see if worked.
As it kept giving an error for syncing I logged out to log in again.
But it wouldn’t accept my masterpassword to log into the extension.
Deleted bitwarden app and deleted the files from local storage, restarted computer and installed again.
Problem persists, same error message.
What else can I do? :frowning:

Safari extension version 2025.3.2
Mac app version 2025.3.0
macOS 15.4.1

Thank you

Hello,
Thank you and I’m sorry to be ignorant but how do I do these?
This seems to be the latest version in the mac app store (updated a few days ago, and what it gave me to download again today). And the Safari extension is bundled with the Mac app.

The mac app will sync the vault ok, is that what you mean? (Bitwarden > File > Sync vault)

How do I reset browser permissions in Safari settings?

Thank you.

you should contact support here

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem as unnamed2683. I can no longer log in with the Bitwarden Safari extension on my Mac. Logging into the Bitwarden desktop app works fine.

I have the following system configuration:
Safari Bitwarden extension version 2025.3.2
Bitwarden Mac App version 2025.3.0
macOS Sequoia 15.4.1

I don’t have the same problems with another Mac. There I have installed the same Bitwarden version of Safari, but a different macOS version, namely Sonoma 14.75.

Perhaps this information will help.

Thanks, I might need to contact Support.

I managed to log in after reinstalling again, but it stopped syncing within a couple of days and worked again after another reinstall. OK it’s stopped working by now, within another 2 days.
As long as I don’t log out, I can still autofill the already existing items. I just can’t sync to add new items now. I only know it’s stopped working as I went to update a note just to test it out.
Get the "“An error has occurred Load failed” if editing or “Syncing failed” if syncing.

I could install on another user, so I tried the reinstall again on my usual user.
This time I deleted from the Library folder everything I could find named bitwarden.
Also removed a safari profile but that probably wasn’t the issue.

Brings me to ask - how should one properly remove the local folders on a Mac?
I gathered I should delete local storage:

  • Mac App Store: ~/Library/Containers/com.bitwarden.desktop/Data/Library/Application Support/Bitwarden
  • Safari: ~/Library/Safari/Databases

And I am just removing the ‘Bitwarden’ and ‘Databases’ folders respectively yea?

But the second time around I removed the whole com.bitwarden.desktop folder.
And there was also other folders like

  • com.bitwarden.desktop.safari
  • com.bitwarden.desktop.safari (some letters)
  • (Some letters).com.bitwarden.desktop
  • com.bitwarden.desktop.plist

So my question for now is more: how exactly do I do a proper reinstall? Am I possibly not removing enough stuff? Thanks all.
