I’ve noticed that quite often I am getting a popup website tab in my Safari browser and I don’t know why it keeps happening. It’s been happening for a while and I don’t know if anyone knows how to get it to not pop up? Sometimes it pops up multiple times like in my screenshot below. I have the Bitwarden extension in Safari enabled and also have the Bitwarden Mac app installed too (which is hardly open).
I’m Addison! You can respond to me here too if Github isn’t your thing. I’ve patched a bug that I think will fix this when it’s released in January, but I am looking for some helpful troubleshooting information from afflicted folks. Here’s my question from Github:
I’m working on troubleshooting this now. Can anyone on this thread confirm some configuration settings for me? I’m currently thinking the issue is related to the native messaging needed to facilitate touch id in the browser extension. Can anyone who experiences this that does not use touch id confirm that “Unlock with touch id” is disabled in the desktop app and browser extension?
I’m an admin at my company and I have a user experiencing this issue as well. At first I thought it was due to the MDM on our side but maybe not now.
Question for you, @addison, when you say “does not use touch id” at all like system wide for it not to even be setup or just disabled in the app itself?
The correlation between this issue and any kind of use of touch ID should be resolved, so I would not advise anybody to turn that off or to enforce any kind of rules about it at the admin level.
The current reports are that folks are seeing a lot of safari popups during upgrades to new versions. I haven’t gotten this patched yet, but it’s on my TODO list for this week.
In the meantime: just bare with us if you can! Sorry for the issue.
That’s great to hear! Hoping for a fix soon. It pops up on every one of my Safari windows I have open whenever there’s an update to Bitwarden. Sometimes more than one instance per window
