I have updated my Mac to the latest version and now the new version of Safari defaults to apple’s password manager. I dont see a way to change it so that it uses BitWarden instead of their password manager. Does anyone know of a way to make BitWarden the default password manager?
Have you tried enabling the option “Make Bitwarden your default password manager”, in the browser extension settings (Settings > Autofill)?
In the hope, it is not completely different for the new Safari 18, here may be also some help: Disable your browser-based password manager | Bitwarden Blog
In MacOS 15, Sequoia, go to Settings and search Autofill. Under Password Autofill turn off Autofill Passwords and Passkeys.
The same search should also show Login Items & Extensions. Click on that and make sure Bitwarden is present as a login item and enabled to run in background.
In Safari go to Settings…Extensions make sure Bitwarden is present, and possibly enable it for Private Browsing. Ignore the warning that it can read and alter web pages, because that is its job.
You should now be good to go.
