I may need to further clarify my proposal: a sharing feature can exist (for example, sharing with members of the same organization), but not in the current form used by “Send”, which involves publicly accessible shareable links. So if there is a future feature like “Share” that doesn’t rely on shareable links, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
If you don’t want to use it you are not required to. But I don’t understand why you would want to deny others the ability to use send.
If somebody choses to disclose to others that Bitwarden is one of their password managers, that certainly seems like their right.
Yes, I don’t use it.
Because this feature increases the user’s attack surface.
That’s true. It’s entirely within their right for those requesting this feature to choose whether to keep using it or stop. It’s also their right to decide whether or not to support the feature request. Ultimately, it’s up to the developers to decide whether the feature is worth maintaining — that is their right. Pointing out the flaws of this feature and submitting the request — that’s my right. Everyone is simply exercising their own rights, and I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Hi @fxzxmic! Would it be sufficient if there was an option to omit the Send function from the UI (i.e., hiding the function for users who do not wish to use it)? If so, I will merge your feature request with this one:
OTOH, if you are doubling down on the request to eliminate the Send function completely for all Bitwarden users, then I will let this feature request stand, but modify it’s title to something that more clearly expresses your intentions (e.g., “Completely eliminate ‘Send’ fuctionality from Bitwarden code base”).
I would guess that the percentage of bitwarden users relying on the send feature is significant.
So, I would also guess that a feature request like this one being implemented would impact negatively on a significant portion of the bitwarden userbase.
In this case I would like to be able to vote against a Feature Request like this one. It doesn’t seem fair to me that the only thing we, as users, can do is voting in favor of this kind of FR.
That thought occurred to me as well. I’m not sure if the discourse forum software would allow that? Anyway, this might be a case warranting the use of certain emojis.
Hey all, closing this one out as there are definitively no plans to remove the Send feature from Bitwarden in its entirety. Those on an Enterprise plan can disable Send globally.
