Questions pre-move: How does it work- simple login

Hello,
Im currently on the lookout from moving away from a different password manager, tho ive grown to like one feature that im wondering exist in bitwarden.

I like the security in my browsers that it auto-logs out after a restart so I need to log in again → and the current password manager has the function where I only need to insert my email adress and I get a request by the authenticator app asking “hey is this you” and then signs me in.
Is this a feature in Bitwarden? or something simular

Cause the last thing I wanna do (again) is to send my master password back and forward.

-Hopefully future Bitwarden Hugger

@HugMeNoaw Welcome to the forum!

I guess that should mean you don’t want to enter your master password on a regular basis? Could you please clarify?

And please add, which systems (OS) and browsers you are using.

Correct

and iOS / random browsers

Ah, okay. Then the iOS mobile app would be your new friend.

And instead of logging out and logging in regularly, you then would want to lock and unlock the mobile app. (What’s the difference between log in and unlock?) – There are mainly two unlock options available at the moment:

And that part of the mobile app is browser independent.

BTW, here a guide to set up the iOS app / autofill: Autofill From iOS App | Bitwarden

PS: I now also changed the tag app:desktop to app:mobile since you now only mentioned iOS. (app:desktop would target at the desktop app on desktop computers)

I also use browsers.. so how would it work there? cause thats the main question cause I assumed the app would work like any other password manager out there

If we are talking about mobile browsers, then: the iOS mobile app can “autofill” (usernames/emails, passwords, “passkeys”…) in your browser – that’s why I included this link here also, where you can see how it can be set up on iOS: Autofill From iOS App | Bitwarden

If you are referring to desktop browser apps installed on a computer (not a mobile device browser), then Bitwarden offers browser extensions for all major browsers.

You configure these to remain logged-in but locked when not in use, and set up a convenient unlock method that does not require entry of the master password (e.g., PIN or biometrics).

Alternatively, you can configure your browser extensions to fully log out when not in use. To log back in without entering your master password, you could type in your email address (or have the browser extension remember the email address), and then choose the option “Log in with Device”; if your iOS Bitwarden app is open and unlocked, you will then be prompted on your IOS device to authorize the browser extension login on your computer.

Perfect, it was this that I was trying to figure out <3

Thought I had it solved but.
According to this using Bitwarden browser extention I should only need to log into it using my master pasword once and then it should work without my master password everytime..
So far I have to save my master password somewhere smart cause everytime my pc/browser restart I need to sign in using masterpassword (I have no other option avalible)…
Is that normal? Is there somewhere I need to activate something to make it easyer?

I thought your plan was to have your browser extension log out on timeout, and to then use your (logged-in) iOS app to authorize Login with Device when you want to use the browser extension?

If you want something different from what you had described initially, please clarify.

Yes thats what im trying to do but everytime I restart browser/pc Im promted this and NOT “authenticate with app” or something in those lines….

In the browser extension, please click :gear: Settings, then click the Account Security link. Under Vault Timeout, make sure that you have set the “Timeout Action” option to “Log out”, as shown in the screenshot below:

You’ll need to customize this setting for every browser that you use (and for every browser profile, if you use browser profiles). Furthermore, if your browser extensions have multiple Bitwarden accounts logged in (using the account switching feature), then you will have to separately configure the Vault Timeout settings for each logged-in account.
