My wife and I share a collection. I am the owner, set up the collection and gave my wife admin rights. Now I want her to have as many rights as possible for the collections, because she can’t edit passwords in her account for shared entries (and she can’t see them either, only points). I entered in the settings that she can edit the collections, but that doesn’t change anything. I don’t understand the upper part of the settings window. I can’t change anything there, or if I do change something, it doesn’t take effect after saving. What do I need to do so that my wife can also see and change the passwords?
The following window appears after I have saved the settings (below “Einträge bearbeiten” is “Items edit”). At the top, I had also selected that she can edit, but it is reset to the default (anzeigen = view) setting after saving.
Please clarify whether the redacted username in your screenshot is you, or your wife:
The Mitglied | Berechting list is a list of every member who has access to the collection, showing the type of permission that they have been granted.
The “Edit” permission does include permissions to view items. The full description of what actions can be taken for each permission level is available in the documentation:
You wrote:
The upper part is for adding collection access for an additional organization member (whose username you must select, using the “Mitglieder auswählen” dropdown selector). To change the permission level of a member who already has access to the collection (i.e., a member shown in the lower section), you must use the “Berechtigung” selector to the right of the username:
This implies that those shared entries are stored in a collection for which your wife’s assigned Berechtigung has been set to “Darf anzeigen, Passwörter ausgenommen”.
The highest level of permissions is “Darf verwalten”.
If you want her to have even further permissions to manage your organization, you could also set her user role (Mitgliedsrolle) to “Besitzer”.
Thank you for your answer. First of all: The blacked-out address is my wife’s address.
It seems that I did everything correctly. The upper section of the form is not relevant to me, as only my wife and I are in the collection.
At the bottom, I had selected “Einträge bearbeiten” I had also selected “Sammlungen verwalten” in the meantime. Nevertheless, she was unable to edit the passwords. For whatever reason …
I have now made her “Besitzer”. Now it works.
One question: In one of your screenshots, the help is displayed in German. Is this available somewhere, or did you translate the help page into German using an add-on? A German help page would make it easier for me.
When you visit the Bitwarden sites (and so: also the Help Center sites) there is a language switch at the bottom of the sites, where you can choose German:
Let’s examine the situation in further detail. How many Collections (Sammlungen) are in your organization vault? Your screenshot shows a collection named “Standardsammlung”, which your wife is a member of, but which you are not a member of. Is there also a second collection, for which both you and your wife have access? It would make sense to have such a collection, if your intent is to share items.
Please consider one of the login items that she is/was unable to edit, and determine which specific Collection (Sammlung) that login item has been assigned to — which is shown below the item name when you view the item details:
Next, please check the permissions (i.e., the Mitglied | Berechting list) for all collections (not just the “Standardsammlung”). Are there any collections in which your wife’s permission was set to “Darf anzeigen, Passwörter ausgenommen” or “Darf bearbeiten, Passwörter ausgenommen”?
