Whenever I sign out of the app, browser extension, or web account, my generator settings reset to 14 characters without special characters.
My settings never stay saved. If the app gets locked and then unlocked, the settings remain, but they reset after signing out.
It’s so frustrating that we can’t save these settings! What’s even more annoying is that, nowadays, most websites require passwords with special characters, so why is the default set without them? Who decided that?
I’d suggest checking the Windows app. The password generator settings are saved to the local Bitwarden vault file data.json (C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Bitwarden\data.json) and persists across the logins, at least as of v2024.10.2.
Check the file while you are logged in, after using the password generator to generate a password with the settings that you want, search for the keyword generator_passwordGeneratorSettings. If you use just one account, there should be only one set.
Log out, reload the file, see if the settings are still the same.
Log in again, reload the file, see if the settings are still the same.
If you see the settings changed back to the defaults. It could be a bug, or could be an installation/update problem. Try uninstalling BW, making sure to delete the data.json file (or even the directory itself, just to make sure). See if you can duplicate the issue. If you can, it might be a bug. If you cannot, then your un-installation/re-installation fixed the problem.
I couldn’t do the thing you asked for, unfortunately, as I am not really familiar with these things. But I think you might be mistaken about it being just a browser extension problem. It’s not just the extension; the problem occurs on my web login, extension, Android app, and Windows app. In all of these, if I lock out and then go back in, the generator setting is still what I put there. However, if I log out and log back in, it goes back to default. I think this problem is widespread because I searched and found that people have been having this issue for a long time, and apparently, nobody has cared to fix it.
I think it is nice to have all the setting get save on your profile so if you change it in one place. you don’t need to be worry about other places
