Please implement NATIVE macOS autofill ALREADY!

I am overwhelmed. I started browsing the web in the 90s, and I’m simply overwhelmed by the sheer level of enshittification we’re seeing nowadays. Lots of ads, fake information created with crappy LLMs and it seems that we’re now back to installing plugins for everything.

Anyone remember Microsoft Internet Explorer ActiveX? All major Operating Systems now have autofill APIs, in fact, Bitwarden makes use of iOS 26 native Autofill for its main purpose - to save and fill saved logins. But on macOS, I can’t do that. It only works on supported browsers and I have to install a Bitwarden extension.

So even though I may have save login info for a subscription-based application, such as basically all of them nowadays like Spotify or AutoDesk, or Adobe stuff, well, I have to open the Bitwarden app and archaically copy/paste the login info manually. But if Bitwarden corp would implement autofill based on macOS API, then I wouldn’t have to do that.

I want to change browser from Safari, so not only do I have to download my preferred browser, I also have to use its webstore to download “extension” from Bitwarden to make it fill logins. It just SUCKS! I know, developers are so scarce /sarcasm… And their time is limited by god know what roadmaps. Isn’t your product support to work as a password manager!? Then the priority should be to make it as easy as possible. Making us install an extra addon on EVERY SINGLE BROWSER WE USE is →NOT← easy! I have searched this forum. And there are requests for this going back TWO YEARS. How many years does it need to finally deliver this feature? You’ve done it on iOS, so what’s stopping your company from doing it on macOS? And why are you making it so ridiculously bureaucratic by trying to “merge” all systems into one issue?

I could care less if you give autofill to Windows users when I don’t use Windows. Focus on one platform at a time!? You clearly have no issues with that, since you’ve delivered this feature on iOS but left desktop OSs in the dust. But guess what, I can’t do everything on a mobile screen. It can’t beat my 57” curved super ultrawide Samsung monitor…. It can’t beat a mouse and a keyboard, and it can’t beat PROPER windowed multitasking. It feels so, so ridiculous that the ONE application (hint: yours) supposed to give me more convenience by holding all my credentials in one, is actually the one that makes me do manual work by copying/pasting stuff unless I install some damned extension that makes me click 500 things to authorize it. When you could just enable your desktop app with the proper APIs and then the OS can make use of my logins globally, without cumbersome extensions or extra steps.

Your business convinced me to migrate from your competitors 1Password. How about you now keep up with development on macOS and deliver features that should’ve already been here at least 3 years ago? It’s not much to ask, it’s not entitlement and it’s not rude of me to speak like this.

It’s frustrating to be lured into an ecosystem as complex and time consuming as password managers are, only to have our needs abandoned. I bet your company is going to invest in some weird AI before it gets the basics right first.

Apple menu > System Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords:

Bitwarden should be a choice there. It’s not. That’s a problem, and it’s a big one right now.
