Password generator is now limited to 30 characters

I use 64-character passwords. I can no longer generate them in the Bitwarden Firefox plugin. The generator now maxes out at 30 characters.

Yet again, a perfectly mature Bitwarden, which should never have been changed, was absolutely destroyed by the recent updates. We need to roll back, permanently. The only valid updates are for security fixes. The UI has been absolutely, thoroughly destroyed. We need to roll back.

What version of the browser extension are you running?

What exact method are you using to generate passwords? (i.e., where & what are you clicking/typing?)

If you open the browser extension window, then click the :arrows_counterclockwise: Generator button in the bottom navigation bar, ensure that “Password” is selected in the top selection bar, and set the “Length” field to 64, what password is shown at the top of the browser extension window?

If the number of characters int he geenrated password is not equal to 64, then please post a screenshot of the browser extension Generator page, showing both the password and the “Length” setting.

I just created this 128-character password with the latest Firefox extension 2024.12.4:

Version: 2024.12.4.

I was creating a New Login, generating the password from there.

Now I can’t reproduce it, which is even worse. Please roll this disaster back to mid 2024, and permanently cease all development except security fixes.

Please do not cease all development. I and 1202 of my friends are looking forward to Auto-type/Autofill for logging into other desktop apps , which has now made it to the active development roadmap.

You’re using Firefox, so you can have your wish without affecting the rest of us. Just uninstall your Bitwarden extension from Firefox, install an old version from the Mozilla app store, and then disable automatic updates by opening the Bitwarden Password Manager under about:addons and setting the selection for “Allow automatic updates” to “Off”.

Thank you @grb, but what about security fixes? I do actually care about those.

And is the API guaranteed to remain stable so that the 2024 xpi will continue to function reliably for the rest of my life?

It doesn’t really seem like a viable solution. I’ll do it, but I wish y’all’d’ve forked bitwarden instead of destroying a good thing.

More fortune comes your way. Github allows you to do just that. And, you can pull into your private fork only those changes you deem to be security fixes.

Self hosting would provide said stability, although you might want to consider high-availability as one likely would experience hardware failure on that time-line.

FYI ‘we’ are not Bitwarden. We here are for the most part just other users who come here to try and assist other users.
