The extension for my Chrome browser has recently updated with a new UI (FireFox addOn still the same) and I find the new way of filling credentials difficult to use.
Generally speaking, the View/Edit credentials page is something you set it once and you rarely go back again (maybe in a couple of years to change password).
On the other hand, Filling credentials to a login form is something you do almost every day.
FireFox: Big click area does Fill, small button is View/Edit.
Chrome: Big click area is View/Edit, small button is Fill.
So on FireFox with the old addOn, I have a big area to click on to do my everyday login, whereas in Chrome I have to focus every time I get logged out on that small āFillā button, which is the reason I took the time off my work to write this.
Iāve just been advising people to uninstall the current version of the extension and sideload the last good working version from the Bitwarden github, here:
It fully restores missing functionality, eliminates additional issues theyāve introduced, is a lot less of a frustration in general.
Paid and using Bitwarden for a few yearsā¦ Making an account the first time since the new UI is truly horrible, and i agree the OP. i often have multiple for a website and i use the fill function 99% of the time and i dont need to open the details 99% of the timeā¦ also why combine the copy user name and copy password as one button?! now itās 2 click to copy each of thoseā¦
Thanks @nelph0nd for the link to revert back to the old version for now!
Thanks Nail. I use the Ctrl+Shift+L quite a lot but only in cases where I have 1 account for 1 domain (eg. Bank).
However, in cases where I have multiple accounts per domain (eg. Work), I knew I cannot avoid search & clicking, itās just that the clicking part is a little bit more difficult now.
So for Chrome you need to unzip the extension into a local folder on your computer and then go into the manage extensions page in Chrome and enable developer mode. Then you can click the āLoad Unpackedā button and it will let you browse to the folder where the unzipped extension lives.
Just keep in mind that this wonāt update or get patches or anything, so donāt consider this a long-term solution.
Personally Iām just doing this while Iām evaluating other password managers.
Iām trying to do this in Firefox, but it wonāt install because it says itās not signed. I donāt know how to go around this āfeatureā. Any help here?
thank you soo much. knowing that Iām not forced to accept the new design makes me sleep better. Although there is a security risk of switching away from the auto update channel.
Nevermind. Found the procedure via Google. While I was able to load the older version from November, it still had the look and functionality of the new version. I did not fully remove the new version, just disabled it, because trying to get it to show up in toolbar has been painful to get it the way I want it. Guess Iāll just suffer along until something else changes.
I tried sideloading again after several attempts to purge the current version and was able to get in installed. Somewhat worthless though in my opinion because the sideloaded version is uninstalled after you close and re-open the browser. Guess itās time to beat on Bitwarden - again.
Just went back to re-install the current version. Looks like they have back-revād the server version because I now have the old style window and the version number is a SDK version. Cautiously hopeful.
I did have it disabled at one time, but jumping through so many hoops probably reset it or who knows what.
Right now though, the About Bitwarden shows:
Version: 2024.12.3
SDK:āmain(edee180)ā
Server version: 2024.12.0
and I have the old functionality back.
