With the introduction of official Mozilla Firefox vertical tabs I would really like to disable the bitwarden sidebar. I prefer the traditional toolbar icon, which I would suggest many users do and don’t want to disable it. I realize this has been discussed before but with Vertical tabs this is now having two different launch points visible on the main Firefox UI at all times and you still have the autofill access method and the right click menu also.
I understand some might prefer one method to the other but four different ways with all that UI real-estate and no option to change other than disabling the most intuitive way?
I second this whoheartedly. I like vertical tabs in Firefox, but the Bitwarden icon in the Sidebar (View > Sidebar > Bitwarden) is useless for me and visually disturbing. There doesn’t seem to be a way to deactivate that at the moment, which is mildly annoying. Thank you for listening to our small annoyance here.
(and @ak1dd ) As there was another post about that a few days ago (Remove Bitwarden from the Firefox sidebar?), I now see the issue myself and also tried to remove it, but don’t see a way to do it at the moment. (even in about:config I didn’t see anything)
However, I have a feeling that it’s “a Firefox thing” for now - as well placing the extension there (without even “asking” the user for it) as not being able to disable or remove it from there… Though, it doesn’t happen with some other extensions, so it seems to be also “a Bitwarden thing”…
→ So, I guess, if it is in Bitwarden’s control / or the part that is in Bitwarden’s control… a way to control both situations should be part of this Feature Request then.
Worth noting that I have other Firefox extensions installed that do not show up in the sidebar, so I would assume this is something the extension can control.
PS: Though, that there are no settings for that in Firefox, seems to me like also a Firefox thing… (if that doesn’t change in Firefox, then that would mean every extension could force it’s way into the sidebar… so I hope (and not only for the Bitwarden extension), that Firefox will allow some settings here as well in the future.)
Looks like this is a product of Bitwarden using the sidebar API, so yes I think Firefox is missing a setting for this.
“These extensions are there because they use the sidebar API to provide a persistent view. Right now, there’s not yet a way to remove them without removing the extension for good. It’s a priority for us to introduce a way to unpin extensions from the sidebar, however”
@joeriddles … ah… and removing that sidebar API would deactivate it completely - probably also making some people unhappy…
I think, we’ll leave that Feature Request for now as it is (as long as this situation is like this) - but it seems we have to wait for Firefox to make the change, ultimately…
