When a password is generated through the Bitwarden icon on the right end of a password field, no follow-up action / notification is offered to save the generated password. If it happens on a webpage for which credentials are already saved please offer to update what’s existing. Yes it’s been requested, yes I can right click and ask for my password to be stored in the clipboard (which isn’t great really), can we just have the password manager try and manage the password it’s just generated. Sorry to sound moody but this is mad.
Welcome, @fxg to the community!
Update your password first in the vault and then use one of the many autofill methods to update the website. Makes it much harder to lose a password.
Also, “offer to save” has already been implemented, but it does require that a “Notification” setting is properly checked. Moving this to “ask the community” as there is nothing to vote on.
@FXG Welcome to the forum!
I think you mean using the “inline autofill menu” for account creation - and I also have the impression, it doesn’t work as it should…
Well, it seems, the Bitwarden developers agree with us - see this “current work”:
Great, yes I’ve got all three notification settings mentioned by @DenBesten switched on but so far I’d say I’ve been prompted to save / update <50% of occurrences. (Just started cleaning my 200+ rubbish passwords stock). Hadn’t found this item, let me go vote for it And thanks pointing me in the right direction.
That is the reason, to use to the recommended method, @DenBesten described.
Oh, if you mean the GitHub “work”: I think that’s already “merged” and should be integrated in one of the next releases… Only for Feature Requests here on this forum, votes can be counted.
As you also opened another thread, that was, I think, more about the password generator in the extension itself (and not about the inline autofill menu generator), here a few words about the generator:
-
If you use the “general generator” of the extension, generated passwords etc. get stored in the “Generator history” (you have to scroll down in the generator window):
-
If you use the generator in a login item, you can directly store the new password in the login item (and the old password get’s automatically stored in the password history of that login item, that you can reach if you scroll down in the “View Login” mode for a login item)
