Offer Keyboard Shortcut Customization in Settings

I think this must be a legacy request but several searches did not reveal a match. This is a request to enable users to assign their own keyboard shortcuts for autofill and other actions. E.g. coming from 1P, I want to assign cmd + \ to autofill, but as far as I can tell, Bitwarden is hardwired to the awkward cmd + shft + L. As is best practice across many popular apps, please offer keyboard shortcut customizations to be set by the user.

@zeb Welcome to the forum!

Go to Settings > Autofill, and launch the link for “Manage Shortcuts” (see screenshot below), then click Continue at the prompt. That will take you to a setup page where you can redefine all keyboard shortcuts used by the Bitwarden browser extension.

Thanks for the welcome! I find that link goes to this basic help page that describes the fixed state of the keyboard shortcuts: Keyboard Shortcuts | Bitwarden Help Center. “For Safari, you may need to re-assign the Show/Hide Sidebar shortcut in order to free up CMD + Shift + L for autofill by Bitwarden.”

The link action depends on what browser you are using. In Chrome, it opens a browser tab showing the settings page at chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or equivalent pages in other Chromium browsers). In Firefox or Safari, the link opens the Help Center documentation, which includes links to specific instructions for Firefox and Safari.

One of us is confused (and it could very well be me!). As I understand it, the Apple Support link attempts to assist Safari users in changing a native Safari keyboard combo away from the same combo used by BW for autofill. This is for people experiencing a shortcut conflict. This does not provide a method for changing Bitwarden’s keyboard shortcut. If I’m wrong, please demonstrate how BW’s keyboard shortcut is changed on Safari. Thanks.

You may be right — the situation may be different for Safari (which I don’t use). Have you checked the following help pages as well?

My original feature request still seems valid and hasn’t been addressed. The app, Bitwarden, provides its own keyboard shortcuts on a Mac (as well as other operating systems, as far as I know). This is separate from Mac OS help pages or OS keyboard shortcuts. I would appreciate it if you could double-check this information before offering suggestions. Thank you!

Apologies, and don’t worry, I won’t be attempting to help you any further in this forum! :wave:
