NO Auto log out of Edge Extension when going to Hibernate or Sleep

I am using the BW Edge extension with Windows 11 25H2. I have enabled auto log out from the extn after 1 hour. However if I Hibernate or Sleep my computer when the extension is unlocked and the browser open, then when I restart the computer (usually the next day) I find that the extension is still unlocked.
This is surely a gap in account security. What if my PC gets stolen in this state?
Does anyone know if this is how the extension is meant to behave or how to ensure that auto log out takes place when Hibernate or Sleep are used?

Hello,

AFAIK, there is no option to get Bitwarden to lock on sleep or hibernate. It does seem surprising that it doesn’t lock past the 1-hour timeout that you set once Windows and the browser are resumed.

There are at least two workarounds that might improve your worry about the computer being stolen in such a state. One is to set Windows to require sign-in after waking up: Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options > If you have been away…

The second option only works with Windows Pro, etc., by enabling BitLocker encryption with a preboot PIN. This would protect the data on the drives you set for encryption.

Thank you for your reply and the suggestions.

I’m glad to find I am not the only one who is surprised at this unsecure behaviour.

Actually I do already use the Windows sign-in on wake so it’s not a totally open door, but I’d much prefer a fully-locked Bitwarden vault. Regret that I do not have Win Pro.

Hopefully one of the BW moderators will feed this to the dev team for an explanation and fix.

You could try setting the timeout to “On system lock” (and set the sleep timer to 1 hour).

Thanks very much GRB

Just found it. I had not seen that option as it’s at the very bottom of the drop down.

Glad to see that the option does indeed exist.

I will try it and only report back here if it doesn’t work. :+1:

You’re welcome!

I think it would be a good idea to also report back if that solution does work for you, so that we can close the topic as solved…
