"New device Logged in From: Chrome/Windows/ios" message

Why is the above message sent by bitwarden when the device is not “new” but reported with a new Ipv6 address where the least significant 4x16 [64 bits out of the total 128 bits with the most significant 4x16 bits unchanging] sets keep changing upon deleting cookies or using it in incognito mode. Will that cause this to happen or is it really another user & why? And where does bitwarden find those ip addresses to report. Thanks for any information in this regard.

@EoF Welcome to the forum!

If cookies are deleted, or if the IP address changes, Bitwarden will no longer recognize the device as an existing device, triggering the “new device” notification.

Personally, I use browse almost exclusively in Incognito, so I get a large number of these notifications. Therefore, I have configured an email filter that discards any “new device” notifications when the IP address is one that matches those that I normally use.

The thing though for me is the last 4 16 bits are never the same. Each time it is entirely different & it has no relation to similar ip address section seen on the computer or the gateway. My query is not that biwarden complains but from where does it locate the ip address it chooses to display. As I said before, this could be from another computer (or “new device” as BW says). This may relate to Ipv6 assignment etc but I am not able to find out what or how.

I don’t know too much about how IPv6 addresses work. Have you tried any online tools, like perhaps the following?
