Mute "Ask to add login" notification when locked/not logged in

This req is a “low hanging fruit”, but it addresses something that I’ve often found quite annoying ever since I started using Bitwarden years ago.

When my Bitwarden vault is locked or I’m not logged in, the “Ask to add login” pops up whenever I log in somewhere (e.g. using Chrome’s pw manager or entering credentials manually), even if the credentials are already stored in Bitwarden (naturally it can’t check when locked). I want to have a quite short auto-lock timeout in Bitwarden, and I use it in combination with Chrome’s pw manager. But I find that Bitwarden spams notifications when I don’t want to.

A like to have the “Ask to add login”-notification enabled when Bitwarden is unlocked (because then it will only notify on new sites!), but Id llove to have the option to mute notification when locked.

Thanks!

Will unchecking settings >> notifications >> Ask to add login" accomplish your goal, or do you specifically want it enabled when unlocked and disabled when locked/not logged in?

Yes I want it enabled when unlocked, and disabled when locked. Alternatively, if it could check whether there IS a login saved for the site, even when locked, so it stops notifying on every login! :slightly_smiling_face: Right now it’s like:
“Hey, do you want to add a login for this site?”
“Ok yes, I’ll just unlock first…”
“Ohhh, never mind - I already had this site”
For every login! :joy:
…it kind of forces me to unlock just to get rid of all these notifications…

One could think, it would be easier, if you just used one password manager constantly…

Hehe, yeah, but it’s not that I use two managers that’s the problem - it’s that I need to unlock to make Bitwarden shut up :joy: There are times when I don’t want to be unlocked for reasons (work computer)

If there are specific sites where this happens frequently, you can add those domains to the “Excluded Domains” list to mute the notifications.

FYI, when the browser extension is locked, all data are encrypted (and therefore inaccessible to anybody) — including the URLs of websites where you have login accounts. Therefore, it is impossible for Bitwarden to know that a login item already exists until you unlock the extension (which decrypts the vault data).

Sure, there are workarounds, and this is not a huge problem :slightly_smiling_face: I just think it’s a bit backwards that the extension is louder when “inactive”.
