I just started using bitwarden recently so I am new to this and in managers in general. Have done a lot of searching and reading. I have my account and I have setup a 2nd account for my parents. I am using firefox browser and extension on a computer. Trying to figure out how to switch between the 2 accounts while logged in on through the browser webpage. With the extension, that was easy to figure out. It has a add account option but I don’t see anything like that while using the webpage. Is this something that is not possible? If it makes any difference, I am using the free account, at least for now.
Something else I found odd unless I did something wrong. To be able to post in these forums, I had to create another account. Is the community pages or accounts not as secure as the manager page?
The Web Vault app does not have an account switcher. You could try using two different browser tabs to log in to the two accounts.
The forum is based on the Discourse platform, which is not a Bitwarden product, and which does not purport to use any encryption technology. It is not uncommon for community forums to be independent of the product they are supporting, and require a different login. Bitwarden has second community space on Reddit, which requires yet another account with a different set of login credentials. If you want to report a bug to Bitwarden, you have to use GitHub, which has a different account, as well.
Another product that I use has separate accounts (with distinct login credentials) for its community forum, for the official support website, and for management of software licenses and subscriptions.
The community forum accounts are completely separate from the Bitwarden vault accounts (for your personal passwords). That’s why you need separate credentials to log into the forums.
Any idea if there is a reason the web vault does not have a way to switch accounts? The extension has it, why not the web vault as well? I will probably end up using 2 different browsers. Just seems strange that the extension has it but not the web vault
It’s probably more difficult to implement, based on the way that a browser stores session data vs. how user data is stored by a browser extension. There is probably also a lower demand for this feature in the Web Vault as compared to the other client apps, as the Web Vault is only infrequently used by most Bitwarden users.
Do you mind explaining your use-case — i.e., why are you using the Web Vault so frequently that your proposed feature would make a difference for you, and why are you switching back and forth between your account and your parents’ accounts while using the Web Vault?
