I need to move codes between two smartphones.
I export the Authenticator codes from the old one and then import them into the new one, but nothing appears, either using json or csv.
Analyzing the two files, I see that there’s only the header and no code.
Reading online, it could be that the codes are synchronized, I believe with the BW app, but there are many more passwords.
I don’t know how to proceed.
The old smartphone needs to be completely reset, but I can’t do that until the data has been copied.
Tanks in advance for any advice.
When you open the BW authenticator app, are the codes in question listed in the section “Local codes”? Or below “Synced with…” (or whatever it’s exactly called)?
Bitwarden.EU, all codes
I’m not entirely sure what to make of this answer, but if that means you have 0 “Local codes” and all codes are synced under your EU Bitwarden account, then:
-
that means, all your synced TOTP codes are stored in your Bitwarden vault (from where they get synced – via the BW mobile app – to the authenticator app)
-
and then, there is nothing to migrate – just install both the BW password manager and BW authenticator app on your new phone, log in to the password manager app, set up the sync with the authenticator app, and the authenticator app syncs the codes locally on your device again (via the password manager app)
(only if you had local codes in your BW authenticator app, those have to be exported – but exports don’t contain synced codes)
I’ve been struggling with import and export for hours, and all I had to do was toggle the switch to “Sync with Bitwarden App.”
Thank you very much.
