We might be saying goodbye to our current password management tool.
At the moment we have around 120 shared folders, each of these folders could have maybe just one or two notes or passwords in, others could have a fifty entries or more. These are all easily searchable by means of a browser plugin. I am told there are over 2000 entries, I am surprised it’s not more.
In the last few days we’ve had a problem where new folders cannot be added and items are not getting synced across devices, the developer has said “Big accounts such as yours may present this kind of issue”.
So we may move to BitWarden.
How many shared folders do you have? If you have the same or more as us are you able to perform good quick searches on all entries? Does anyone know what the maximum size is for BitWarden?
I can’t answer your question about limits, but I would like to clarify that Bitwarden uses a shared folder paradigm that is different from what you’re used to.
Basically, what Bitwarden calls folders is something that is only available in individual user vaults; the folder structure is defined by each user to organize the items that they have access to (including their own items as well as shared items), and folders are never shared.
Conversely, in Bitwarden, the containers used to group shared items are called collections. These are primarily for the purpose of achieving fine-grained control of access permissions to shared items. Thus, all items that have identical permission setups (defining which users or groups can view, edit, or manage the items, etc.) can be placed in a common collection.
Thus, if there are three users (Alice, Bob, and Charlie), a collection can be set up so that Alice can view and edit shared items in the collection, while Bob has view-only access, and Charlie has no access to the collection. Alice may then place some of the shared items in a folder (in her own vault) called “Clients”, and other items from the same shared collection in a folder called “Important”; in the meantime, Bob may place those very same shared items in a folder called “Work” (which exists in his own vault only).
I may not be able to answer all your questions, but two things:
in Bitwarden, “shared folders” are called “collections” – and collections can be created in so-called “organizations”. Just for the terminology here. And here a good starter, if you want to know more: Organizations Quick Start | Bitwarden
though I’m not sure about a “maximum”, I think a good indicator would be also, to see the “import maximum”: File size import limitations | Bitwarden → so, from what you describe, I think it is well within Bitwarden’s capabilities
