Master password in Opera plugin with special chars does not work

Hello,

I tried master password in Open plugin, and it does not work.
It works just for Web page, but does not for Opera plugin both on Mac and PC.

I guess this is a problem with special chars in master password.
It contained $ * & chars,
When I changed master password with such chars it seems working.

Looks like this is one of the similar issues discussed.

I am not sure if this is a correct place to post such issues.
Probably somebody else experienced the same issue.
Thanks.

@serg Welcome to the forum!

At first, I wanted to respond with “did you choose the right server region?” - but when it works when you change the master password, I think you already chose the right server region (US/.com or EU/.eu) before… (?!)

I didn’t test it with Opera and the Opera browser extension - but with a test account, I have no problems using these three special characters $ * & in the master password, logging in to the extension.

The extensions shouldn’t be that different from browser to browser… but did you try it with another browser (e.g. Firefox or Brave)?

And did you check via the “visibility toggle”, you didn’t have any typos in your master password input?

PS: Though, special characters indeed can be problematic… more to that here: [Guide] "I can't login" - Some tips for login problems/issues (scroll down in this whole linked 4th section of the guide)

@Nail1684 thanks for response.

I rechecked again.
It seems that the issue exists, but it is not related to the special chars.
I changed master password to the one without special symbols and was able to sign in, this is why I supposed that the issue could be related to the special chars.

But now I tried to sign in again, and was not able to sign in to Opera plugin again with the password without special chars.
To workaround this I logged out and logged in, and it works. When account was just locked I got a message “Invalid master password”. Now I can lock account and enter master password after this, and it works. Log out is not needed anymore.
It seems the is some issue but I don’t have clear understanding how to reproduce it.
Probably some time should be passed, I will try later again.

Everything works fine in Firefox with both plugin and usiing the link https://vault.bitwarden.com/.
I tried on the Mac.

Thank you

That sounds like I a good idea. :+1:

If it turns out, you can reproduce it, you ultimately could think of reporting it as a bug (“New issue”) on GitHub.

PS:

That whole sequence sounds a bit like a “hiccup” with the app - and after you changed the master password, it maybe was necessary to log out in the extension first and log in again, to “adopt” the master password change. (or I didn’t understand your whole “sequence” completely  )

I am not sure about the exact sequence.
I was not able to log in with old password (with special chars).
I am not sure if I tried to log out and log in, or just tried to unlock account. At least I was able to initially log in to Opera plugin, and later I had issues with this.

Then I changed master password and was able to sign in with it.
And again I am not sure if I tried to log out here. But I was able to log in / unlock with new password.
And it worked fine.

Then after several hours I was not able to unlock my account. And here I already paid attention to this. So unlock didn’t work, but log out/log in worked.

I also just tried to forcibly lock account, and it can be unlocked successfully.

So it seems working now.
If the issue appear again, I will try different action and will try to describe with that details.

Thank you
