Opened the Bitwarden app from Start menu on Windows 10
Filled in my email address that is associated with my Bitwarden account
Clicked Continue
Typed in the master password (with the eye selected to see what I’m typing)
Clicked “log in with master password”
Red box upper right appeared: “An error has occurred. Please update your app to continue using Bitwarden”
Bitwarden is already signed in and working okay in Chrome and Firefox browsers.
How can I fix it?
Thanks
@peacock Welcome to the forum!
Did you choose the correct server region?
The US/.com and EU/.eu server regions are not interchangeable – a login only works on the server region your account was created on.

I was trying to do it using bitwarden.com
I just tried with bitwarden.eu and I get a different red error box:
An error has occurred. An unexpected error has occurred.
Hm. I think I kind of overlooked that part before:

What version is your desktop app? (in the desktop app, go to Help → About Bitwarden)
And did you try to update it?

Version 2024.8.2 Shell 31.3.1
Check for updates says it’s up to date.
I thought it might have something to do with having installed a new VPN (Windscribe) shortly before trying to sign into the Bitwarden app. I have Windscribe turned off and tried Bitwarden again, but it is still giving errors.

That version indeed is outdated.
The current version is 2025.12.1.
You should deinstall it and download the new version here: Download the Bitwarden Password Manager App for iPhone, Android, Chrome, Safari, and More | Bitwarden

I have now uninstalled and installed the 2025.12.1 version and I can finally sign into Bitwarden.
Thank you for your help!
