macOS Chrome extension only unlocks with biometrics if the desktop app is unlocked first

macOS 14.5, desktop app 2024.5.0 (24604), Chrome extension 2024.4.2

Since the desktop app update to 2024.5.0 (24604), the Chrome extension can’t unlock with biometrics unless I unlock the desktop app first. This did not use to be the case in the past. Is this new behavior intentional (which would be annoying) or a bug?
