@cmbarton I just opened this new topic, in case you still can’t reply in the other topic(s)…
Thanks @Nail1684. The only thing I have to add at this point is that Apple passwords was able to successfully store a passkey for both GitHub and NSF–the sites that failed with BitWarden passkey saving. So it is doable somehow.
I forgot to ping you directly but maybe you got it anyway. I was able to add a passkey for logging into the forum.
So now it seems like BitWarden (or perhaps BitWarden for the Mac) has a problem with saving passkeys from some places but not others. Unfortunately for me, two places it is not working are both quite important for me. And GitHub is probably pretty important for many other people too.
So is this something to make an issue or bug report about?
More searching here turned up a couple more reports that were closed with no resolution (I’d read 1 previously). But thought I should reference them here. This seems to have been a problem since at least summer 2024 #70585 and #71588
That’s great news (and you get an award for the successful fight with the forum software ) and yeah, so at least it’s possible.
Did you see this post, reporting that logging in to GitHub with a passkey from Bitwarden worked on the Mac?
I’m not sure, maybe it’s a bug - maybe you could try to deinstall/reinstall the extension, that sometimes helps (Sorry, if you have done it before, I seem to have forgotten it then by now). – My gut feeling tends to it’s a configuration issue (possibly something we are not aware of right now)… especially, since it work’s for @DoctorB - so what’s the difference with your configuration/settings so that it doesn’t work with GitHub?!
(It’s also anecdotal evidence, but apart from one or two reports here and there - we haven’t seen widespread reports about Bitwarden/passkeys/MacOS not working here in the forum.)
I think I provided the link before… here you can report bugs (“New issue”): GitHub · Where software is built If you report it, they will try to reproduce it. If they can’t reproduce the/a bug, the report will get closed very soon. Either way, you probably would get some clarity. (PS: though, again, if it works for @DoctorB , chances are, it’s not a general and widespread “malfunction”/“defect”… could still be a bug, happening under certain circumstances… unfortunately, those might be very difficult to track down…)
Can you provide the links?
Hm, there seem to be other reports, that GitHub and passkeys might be “buggy” lately - independent of the used OS: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitwarden/s/ie7PDGin7b
My GitHub passkey still works flawlessly, and a few weeks ago, for testing purposes, I created a new GitHub-passkey without problems. (Windows 11)
So, GitHub might not be a problem on your side, then…
