Have Bitwarden Password Manager running on Chromebook, but unable to login to Community Forum with that password, had to create a new account with a different email. On my desktop Linux it did not even ask for login credentials, forum opened without it. What am I missing, why the difference?
@allanku Welcome to the forum!
This is a bit simplified, but:
-
the Bitwarden Community Forum and your Bitwarden account (cloud and self-hosted) are two separate and independent things
-
the BW master password encrypts/decrypts the BW vault
-
I would be horrified, if my BW master password would be contained in the database of this forum (even hashed)
- … all the more if it would happen automatically (which would have a few other implications, I think… like how much “zero-knowledge” could BW really be then)
-
(and in general we don’t want to re-use passwords… ever)
If you chose your master password also for the forum – I would recommend to change your BW master password then.
PS: … I guess this post is also yours: Community.bitwarden login ?
@allanku Welcome to the forum!
The community.bitwarden.com website is completely independent from your Bitwarden account on vault.bitwarden.com, and requires you to register for a separate account. You could use the same email address and/or the same password for both, but this is neither required, nor recommended.
The forum website is publicly viewable, not login required. You only need to log in if you wish to post in the forum (or use functions like bookmarks, reactions, notifications, etc.).
I finally decided that that must be the case so created a new login for the forum using my secondary email. Too bad the instructions nowhere made that clear. Then after a couple of hours of trying I finally figured out how to compose a topic on the forum. I begin to wonder if Bitwarden app and forum were developed by a Finn ( which I am) which would explain the peculiar layout
Thank you for the reply
@Allan Nice to hear from you – and that you finally made it to the forum.
And yeah, this is a peculiar place sometimes… But we don’t bite. Feel free to post what you’re here for. (PS: if it’s a specific topic, better open a separate thread for that – or join an existing one if it matches…)
Thanks, I will.
Sorry to bother you again, but I am still completely lost on how to use the forum. I did try to post a question, but apparently needed to be logged on to post. I think my post is in draft, but I was unable to open the draft. I cannot find any way to logon to the forum. I did create a forum user account at some point. If logon is not required, then I wonder why I could not post. I think that without forum support I may find Bitwarden too difficult to use if I have any needs beyond the simple.
If you are participating via the forum website (https://community.bitwarden.com/), then you cannot post on the forum unless you are logged in. If you are participating via email, then you do not need to log in each time — just respond directly to the email notifications that you receive from the forum.
If you want to start a new topic on the forum, it may be necessary to use the forum website. Once logged in, go to the Ask the Community category for the Password Manager product, and click
New Topic.
To log in, open a web browser, and navigate to https://community.bitwarden.com/login. Enter your username and password on the login form, and click Log In.
When you manage to log in again, then your drafts (if there are any) can be found at the top in the sidebar on the left. (at least that’s the easiest route)
PS: At least, when that part of the sidebar doesn’t change place – as it can happen sometimes, probably due to a bug… ![]()
I do not get to login form or page. Only when I click your link or even type it in myself, I end up at the forum page, no login form. It seems to drop the /login from the url - strange, I will try on my desktop unit. Maybe I should clear cache and delete cookies?
It should not be necessary to clear your cache/cookies, but I do recommend that you try accessing the forum login form using your desktop computer.
Alternatively, navigate to the main forum domain (community.bitwarden.com), and look for the “Log In” button (identified with an orange circle in the screenshot below):
Another thing that could be happening, is that you are already logged in on that device. If that is the case, you will not see the login form or the “Log In” button, but you should see a circle with your initial in the top right corner of the forum website:

(e.g., the letter A shown in the green circle above).
Decided to drop Bitwarden and go back to Lastpass. Bitwarden just too difficult and forum is impossible. Thank you for all your help
