Locked out due to verification e-mail expiration

Good morning all,

I’m using the BitWarden in Google Chrome and Edge to get to my vault. I login with my registered e-mail address and i am asked for my master password. Next it automatically sends a verification e-mail with a code. The e-mail arrives alright, but always too late. The code seems to expire after a minute or so.

I’m locked out essentially.

Is there some way to allow the verification expiration not expire so fast? How can i login again?

Hello and welcome back! :waving_hand:

If you see this screen, you are running into New Device Login Protection. The timeout period isn’t configurable; I think it’s usually two minutes. Usually, the email comes later because Bitwarden is having problems with sending emails to the email provider.

You can try doing this a few more times with the web vault to see if you get an email in time, or try it on a browser where you have logged into the vault in the past without clearing the cookies and data. If you are able to log in, you want to enable a 2FA option. The safest one would be a “Passkey” 2FA, which can be your Windows machine (using Windows Hello), but needs to be a security key to be portable. The safe and reliable option is an Authenticator app, like Ente. I wouldn’t recommend having email 2FA unless you also have other alternative 2FAs, because of the problem you are experiencing. Don’t forget to grab the 2FA recovery and keep it safe and reliably accessible (you may need it).

If you find you still can’t get the email in time, you may want to contact customer support to see if they can disable this one time for you.
