✅ Linux Fingerprint and/or Biometric support

Probably

cd apps/desktop/desktop_native
source ~/.cargo/env
export PKG_CONFIG_ALL_STATIC=1
export PKG_CONFIG_ALLOW_CROSS=1
rustup target add x86_64-unknown-linux-musl
npm run build -- --target x86_64-unknown-linux-musl
cd ..
npm run dist:lin

To get the correct rust configuration again. Anyways, as I mentioned it’s probably best to just wait for bitwarden to have a look at the pull request.

I’m getting the exact same issue.

1password handles fingerprint/biometrics really well. I was using Bitwarden but I have moved to 1password for now and this is one of the reasons.

1Password also uses Polkit on Linux as far as I know. So my current pull request should bring feature parity in that regard.

What had happened to that pull request? Was that merged with the master branch?

No. It was in pull-request limbo for a while. At some point, the way Biometrics works was changed in master, so now my PR requires some changes, which I have not found the time to get to yet.

Hi, I am the user with Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) using Brave as browser, while trying to enable the option of Unlock with Bio metric, noticed that it does not support, urge community if any one else faced this problem or is this the limitation from Bitwarden,

Kindly request to implement this feature if its not supported yet for brave browser with Linux…

Thanks in advance

It is so disappointing from bitwarden to not implement something seemingly so easy with such a high demand, and for such a long time from the community… Switching to another manager

I did update the PR a while ago, and there is response from the Bitwarden team. It’s going to be merged at some point (possibly with some more changes, though it is correctly working at the moment), but IDK how long it will take. In the meantime, you could build my pull-request branch from source, or use GitHub - quexten/bw-bio-handler: Bitwarden desktop browser biometrics, without the desktop app, on linux.

I have setup fingerprint in Ubuntu and it’s bloody amazing. It works for the terminal too. I need this feature for Bitwarden.

Any news on this feature? I’m loving the libfprint functionality of Linux mint and I’d love for this to be enabled for Bitwarden. I created an account to voice my support of this feature.

The pull-request to get the feature merged into the official desktop client still has to be reviewed by the Bitwarden team. If you want the feature right now, your options are either building and installing the pull-request for the desktop client, or using the GitHub - quexten/bw-bio-handler: Bitwarden desktop browser biometrics, without the desktop app, on linux tool I linked above.

Can you please share which one?

For anyone on arch linux I have created a makepkg with instructions for how to do this based on the work of @Quexten that has all the necessary patches and instructions to get biometrics working on arch linux available here

i would also like to +1 this. currently i keep my vault unlocked all the time, because typing the master password each time is too much of a hassle. but it’s not a very secure solution. :scream:

1password has no problem with this. They have an option called “Unlock using system authentication service”.

I just want to give my +1 vote for this feature. This would be an amazing addition to already great product.

Another subscriber who has been waiting for this feature for years. I would greatly appreciate it.

The Linux community is a great supporter of Bitwarden. It is such a pity this is not a priority for the company.
