Linux desktop app: make "first unlock with biometrics" option available (like on Windows/MacOS)

Hi Bitwarden team,

I’d like to request an improvement to the Linux unlock flow.

On Windows and macOS, when biometrics are configured, it is possible to unlock Bitwarden without being forced to enter the master password after every reboot. On Linux, however, even with biometrics properly set up, the master password is still typically required after restarting the machine.

I understand that Linux has different technical constraints and integration details, but I think it would be much better if the Linux experience were closer to Windows and macOS: once the system is up and biometrics are available, Bitwarden should allow biometric unlock without always requiring the master password as the first step.

This would significantly improve the day-to-day experience for Linux users who already have working biometric authentication on their system, and it would make Bitwarden feel more consistent across platforms.

Thank you for considering this request.

@kr0n Welcome to the forum!

As the browser extensions don’t have such a setting, you seem to be talking about the desktop app. (and therefore I just changed the tag app:browser to app:desktop)

And you seem to be targeting this current situation:

(–> Unlock With Biometrics | Bitwarden)

(sidenote: there is an interesting expression in that note… I never knew you could log in to the Linux desktop app just with a PIN… :sweat_smile: – I guess the first unlock after app start is meant… :melting_face:)

Yes! I target to this. thank you!
