iPhone app broken?

I have used the Bitwarden app successfully on my iphone for some time now, up to and including just in the last couple days. Today, the app suddenly prompts me to enter my master pw, and will not accept the correct pw (which works in the browser extension, apple mac app/vault). My version of the app is 2024.9.2. A quick look at reviews in the app store shows I am not the only one experiencing this issue. It seems some of the developer responses push this off on vaultwarden, but I have to say I am more than disappointed at the cold responses from BW. As a paying customer, I’d expect a little more clarity and guidance in these reponses, or at least to see this as an open or known issue and a fix. Anyone have some advice on how to resolve this, without just simply giving up on BW? I am sure I am not alone in saying I dont have hours to sit around figuring this out. I expect it to just work.

@Fifty Hi!

Short list:

  • Did you check whether you try to login on the server region, your account was created on (US = .com or EU = .eu)?
  • There where some reports about a keyboard app or setting on iOS (I don’t remember now, how it is called), interfering with the typing of the correct master password (and also email address?), check for that
  • Did you try to deinstall and reinstall the mobile app?
  • What is your iOS version?
  • Do you self-host? If yes, update the server version to the latest… (I see the tag “cloud-default”, but just in case…)
  • Did you check whether you try to login on the server region, your account was created on (US = .com or EU = .eu)? - Yes (mine is a .com)
  • There where some reports about a keyboard app or setting on iOS (I don’t remember now, how it is called), interfering with the typing in of the correct master password (and also email address?), check for that (checked and pasted instead of typing, still didnt work)
  • Did you try to deinstall and reinstall the mobile app? Yups!
  • What is your iOS version? 18.0
  • Do you self-host? If yes, update the server version to the latest… (I see the tag “cloud-default”, but just in case…) - No I do not

Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it. Luckily my desktop vault access exists, so I was able to download my pw and move to a different option. I’ll give BW a few days to resolve this amicably without canceling.

Does your master pasword contain any kind of quotation marks? The iOS operating system will sometimes replace these with “smart quotes”.

I encountered this error myself on October 1(iOS 17.6.1, BW 2024.9.2 (1106)). I have noticed the iOS keyboard produces a smart quote by default when typing an apostrophe or quotation mark into the Master Password field. If you long-press the key on your phone it will present you with some options, one of which is the plain text version.

Is this us <> eu server something new? There is o setting in the app that controls this.

I wouldn’t say this is a setting. It is the location of your account. It can either be in US region or EU region. - On the login page you can choose your server region. (login to the wrong server region will fail as those two are distinct)

The possibility, to create a new account alternatively on an EU region server was introduced with the July releases last year:
