Just started using bitwarden. Got locked out of a couple accounts and couldn’t figure out why, then I got locked out of my account because my master was invalid the next day.
Opera GX, iOS 18, Windows 11
When generating passwords if you highlight and drag beyond the edge of the box on the password generation screen, ctrl+c or right click, 3 new line breaks are generated, which get converted to spaces.
On the Windows 11 client, 4 spaces are generated.
Unsure if the iOS client is affected, was tired, pretty sure I had the same problem but ???
I am aware this isn’t the “intended” way of copying passwords, but given the behaviour of the new login function on the browser extension, others have run into the same issue as me. The new login page doesn’t have a copy button, which got me into the habit of highlighting to copy even if the button is there. It’s only an issue on sites and services that DO allow for spaces, and if you have a backup you’re copying from WITHOUT spaces.
throwing these in so it might show up better in searches ¯_(ツ)_/¯
changed my bitwarden password, can’t sign in
invalid master password bitwarden
new bitwarden password invalid
I see. The solution is to first click Save, and then copy (or better: autofill) the password. This also ensures that you will not accidentally lose the copied password, if the browser extension window is closed before the password is saved.
The recommended workflow is:
Click the icon in the Password field.
Click Use this password.
Click Save.
Copy/paste or drag-and-fill or autofill the saved password into the web form.
Regardless, there is a bug when copying a highlighted password on the Generator screen (but, incidentally, not on the “New Login” screen). You should report this on GitHub.
