In web page auto fill drop down, doesn't work on some sites

On some sites I work with the auto fill drop down on the user/password fields for Bitwarden extension does not work. Is there anything I can do about this to get that working?

Example sites that I have problems with;https://50.245.178.73/ and https://65.183.164.212/,

Edit; to be clear, using the Fill option does work on those types of sites, I just never get the Bitwarden drop down on the login/password fields in the site.

That application will show up under many IP/URL so doing any sort of white listing will be cumbersome. Likewise it’s an enterprise app so pushing through changes in the app to make it work with Bitwarden won’t be flying.

Complicating matters the extension redesign made the extension fill button very small so I am now forever going into view item instead of filling the login field like I used to be able to do.

Using Vivaldi and Bitwarden extension 2024.12.3.

This is a picture of what I’m talking about, hope it helps.

I have at least one site in my vault that uses a text field for the password, instead of a password field for it. For that reason (I think) that’s why BW won’t fill that password field automatically.

But I could be wrong.

Can you provide any other URL where you experience the same problem? - I didn’t want to follow through with those links, as they both show the same kind of warning message:

Auto fill does work for user and password… I don’t know how to make this any more clear.

Nothing about those to be scared of, just a self signed cert you can see. Also this one has a legit cert office.harrisisi.com

This is a common HVAC app, doesn’t always get deployed professionally.

This one is not even reachable for me:

You said in your post title that it doesn’t work for some sites. That’s why I posted my reply.

If I understood @Maxburn correctly, auto-fill (via the Fill-button) works, but the inline autofill menu doesn’t show up. Correct?

That is correct.

Sorry about the one you can’t reach, we have that in a geo block.

Something else I just noticed, this feature has probably been there forever but I just realized that you can right click in the user or password fields and select Bitwarden, Autofill, and select the credentials you want to use.

This if further evidence to me that the extension recognizes the user/password fields just fine but there’s something odd about the site that prevents it from showing the UI to select credentials in a drop down box.

Long shot, but two unrelated Bitwarden features that make very invasive changes to the website HTML code (such that rendering problems are no uncommon) are the inline autofill menus and the support for passkeys. As a test, you could try to disable “Ask to save and use passkeys” (under Settings . Notifcations), to see if this has any effect on the rendering of the inline autofill menus on your site.

I disabled “Ask to save and use passkeys” and I didn’t see that it made a change in this issue. I reloaded the site and closed/reopened the browser after that too, no change.

I will note that if I switch to stock chrome browser and turn on the built in password manager it can do this for these sites. Picture below.

I also have this one that has a valid certificate and no geo block, so in theory you all should be able to see this one (I hope); https://brooklandbaptist.harrisintegration.com

I can reproduce your issue in Chrome, using extension version 2024.12.4.

Usually, Bitwarden doesn’t accept bug reports for autofill failure, but they ask you to submit reports of autofill issues using the following form:

Unrelated to your autofill problem, but you may want to read this discussion on StackOverflow, as the same CJMaker tool discussed there is being used on your webpage:

Genuine question; I think we have a language barrier problem here, What is the feature where you click in the user/login field and get a drop list?

The “autofill” part where it puts in the saved user/password works fine for both the user and password, “autofill” works great. As such I don’t think that autofill report form is appropriate?

I don’t think there is a language barrier, unless you misunderstood the part where I said I agree with you that you’ve found an issue.

This feature is called “inline autofill menus” (previously called “overlay pop-up interface”, and it is enabled using an option named “Show autofill suggestions on form fields” (which can be found under Settings > Autofill).

“Autofilling” is just the feature that transfers your vault credentials into a login form. The Bitwarden browser extension offers about 8 different methods for autofilling, which fall into 5 functional categories. You have found a bug in one of these autofilling categories (the inline autofill menus).

As such, I think that the Autofill Failure Report form would be appropriate (check the “Inline auto-fill menu” option as the autofill method used, and specify “Other” where it asks “What field did not work?”).

Nonetheless, if you prefer, you can open a bug report (“New Issue”) on GitHub (which is where bugs are tracked). Bitwarden reviews each bug report, and if it is deemed by them to be an autofill issue, they will direct you to the Autofill Failure Report form.
