I have been a long-time user of 1Password and now want to migrate to bitwarden because they dropped Dropbox sync.
I followed the instruction here (Import Data from 1Password) and mostly everything has been transfered, but as the document says some are not.
It says:
Additional items such as File attachments, Sends, trash, and password history will need to be manually uploaded to your vault.
I am willing to do this but I haven’t found the actual steps for this. Are there any additional documents or forum post explaining how to do this? Did anyone here succsessfully do this?
I’d like to especialy keep password change history and attachments. Those are critical and can’t be lost.
You must be a paid user ($10/year or family plan) to have this feature.
For password history, I believe the instructions for importing from 1Password mean that they do not import password history automatically. If you want to keep the password history from 1Password, you will need to copy the information one by one into the corresponding entry in Bitwarden, possibly all in the “Notes” field, or in custom fields.
Bitwarden currently does not handle password history well. It keeps only the last five edits, including edits to hidden custom fields. If you back up your Bitwarden vault (in a .json file), the password history is not included. For this reason, users on the Bitwarden subreddit recommend keeping password history manually in the Notes field.
Click on the number to see the previous password values.
As noted by @Neuron5569, Bitwarden’s password history includes at most five previous passwords. The same “password history” also tracks changes to any hidden custom fields, so if you make changes to hidden custom fields, your password history may contain fewer than five passwords.
Thanks for the Reddit link. Since 1pux is a 1Password 8 format, I tried with the 1pif file supported by 1Password 7 that I use. And confirmed that the history is migrated!
Actually, I had tried the 1pif file before, but it didn’t go well due to errors on import, so I had used the CSV format.
This time I deleted the several items causing the error and tried the 1pif again and was able to migrate it, including the history. So I understand that the documentation has not been updated yet.
Thanks for the information about the attachment migration. Thanks also for the information about the number of password histories. I will copy them manually to the notes field when necessary. It would be nice if unlimited history storage is supported.
When I import 1pif with a paid plan, attachments are still not loaded. 1password’s 1pif export saves attachments in a separate directory, so it would be nice if Bitwarden would import these. This time I will attach them manually.
