I would like to import my KeepassXC database. Now it turns out that my notes in Keepass, which I separated with returns, are not displayed correctly in the .csv file. They are each displayed as a separate line. Since I have a lot of notes, manual editing is not practical. Does anyone have any idea how to export the notes from KeepassXC correctly so that I can import them?
@Friedel12 Welcome to the forum!
It doesn’t matter how they’re displayed in the .csv file. Have you tried importing the .csv file? You could specify a folder for all items to be placed into during the import, which will make it easier to delete all those imported items in bulk in case the import doesn’t work as desired. Alternatively, you can temporarily create a dummy account on Bitwarden and test out the import there.
Here’s how to put all imported items into a single folder — first, create an empty folder, and then select the folder in the import tool:
Wow, Now it works. Don’t ask me what I did wrong before. I selected the KeepassX format during import (as I think I did before). Now the entries are imported cleanly. A question about the folder: I imported all of them into a new (test) folder. But when I deleted the folder, the entries remain without a folder. How can I delete a folder including the files it contains in case the large import doesn’t work?
Oops — if you imported the items into a folder with the intent of deleting them in bulk, then deleting the folder now makes that impossible.
You have to delete the items first (and the folder second). To bulk delete the items, log in to the Web Vault and use the vault filters to view the contents of the folder in question (as well as specifying “All Items”), and then take the following actions (as shown in the screenshot below):
- Click
All. - Click the kebab menu icon (three vertical dots) to the right of “Owner”.
- Select
Delete.

Everything is working now. A tip for anyone who might have the same problem. I think I initially tried using the Windows app when the data wasn’t imported correctly. So, import via the web interface and use a .csv file to import via the KeepassX format (I use KeepassXC).
