Macbook running OSX Catalina
A few months back I started with Bitwarden and setup a passkey for my Google Accounts. A prompt came up and I would enter my Bitwarden password which would then ask if I wanted to log into Google and I would hit “confirm”. All good. Today I have a new Macbook laptop but whenever I try to log into my Google it account, it requests a physical deviuce (dongle or similar) and not the complex Bitwarden code I used to enter in he past.
I try to login another way so that I can remove the passkey from my Google accounr but that takes me into an endless cycle of verification which does not allow me access to the account
Really hope someone knows what is going on here and how my Bitwarden code has morphed into a physical device (and how I can get it back)!
Thanks for your time
William
@Schoinobates Hi!
What was the machine, you added the passkey to the Google account?
From what you write, I suspect you might have added that passkey(s) not to the Bitwarden vault, but to the machine you were working on then. So if you can, try to login to your Google accounts with that old machine.
But, maybe first, you could check, that your Bitwarden extension is set up as it should be:
→ Settings → Notifications → check that the “Ask for … passkey”-option is turned on
→ Settings → Notifications → Excluded domains → check that the Google domains are not on that list (if they are, delete the domains there)
It could be that, if you stored the passkeys in the Bitwarden vault, now the Bitwarden vault can access and use them again.
If that doesn’t work, I think my first “suspicion” - that the passkeys were created on your former laptop or whatever - could be the case.
Thanks so much Nail1684 for taking the time to think about my problem. Unfortunately the old machine has died but I can see a passkey mentioned in my Google security settings so I will work on eliminating that first (as soon as I am allowed to log in!). So many small things when changing machines. Again, very much appreciate your help!
If you have an Android phone or tablet… there might be an automatically created passkey for the Google account on them (Google started this some time ago). Maybe you can log in to your Google account by that?
